Back into it Monday

Good evening,

Well, after a couple of weeks disruption, we were back into it today. Well, Values Assembly aside.

In fact, we're so much into the normal swing of things that I forgot to take any photos!

However, two groups of children chose to share a poem and a play at the end of reading off their own bat.

Cool!

We also picked up where we left off with the body unit...

And a good time was had by all!

Bye for now,

Mr Grant

Finals Friday

Good afternoon,

We had two quite different finals' commemorations today.

The first was for the All Blacks, facing their final Rugby World Cup match on Sunday morning (NZ time)...

...and then a final farewell assembly for Mrs Earl. She has done wonders for the school and I know that the whole community will miss her, as well as wish her all the very best for the challenges that lie ahead for her at her new school.

Good luck Mrs Earl!

After morning tea we also said farewell to Harold the Giraffe of Life Education fame.

Who in turn, sang for us!

The rest of the day was spent Key Competentcying.

Have a great weekend,

Mr Grant

Tall Order Thursday

Good afternoon,

This morning, after a good discussion about the heart of the Gospel...

...we popped into the Life Education caravan to meet Harold the Giraffe...

...as well as learning some other interesting bits and bobs.

Then, once I got back from taking some choir children to the Cashmere View Retirement Village to help out at a wee church service that the Parish runs for the residents (once a term, I believe), we carried on with some of our regularly scheduled reading programme.

Oh, and this just in from the student council...

Hi everyone,

We, along with Hoon Hay school...and much of the nation...are having a Black Out day to celebrate The All Blacks getting into the Rugby World Cup finals.

Your children have to be dressed in black (or grey or white - alternative strip) or they come in their school uniform. Their shoes do not have to be black though.

Please, no face paint!

We will be out on Sparks Road shortly after 9 to show solidarity with Hoon Hay and the local community.

Have a great day!

Mr H.

See you all blacked out in the morning then!

Mr Grant

And speaking of the Gospel...

Monday Funday

Good afternoon,

Not much to report really. Indeed, Maddison had already done much of it - see her previous posts here, here and here!

Prior to her posts, we did a spot of writing...

...and after lunch some more topic related...art...

Oh, and one more thing...

:-)

Screaming-Hysterics Thursday

Good afternoon,

Right. That's it. Never again!

As advertised yesterday...

...this afternoon we tried to name our..."bits"...

The class just dissolved into chaos! :-)

Sigh.

Which means we'll have to revisit...bits...of it again next week! (Specifically...the girls' bits. The external part, well...it's called a vulva. Not to be confused with a Volvo...)

The unit we are teaching to can be viewed here.

Prior to this we had a visit from a Super Hero. Well, sort of. She was a Super Saver!

We also did a bit of reading...

...and R.E..

See you tomorrow, all spick and span for Athletics Day.

Dress in your house colours.

Fourth First Day Monday

Good afternoon,

And welcome to the fourth Monday of a new term...for this year.

We did the usual stuff...

...plus something new.

So, after a bit of discussion...

...we documented some of our prior knowledge...

...of which there was a fair bit, and then, after tracing around two volunteers, labeled those parts accordingly.

The results of which are at the back of the room.

A notice will be coming home this week about...well, the bits and pieces that we will be talking about on Friday - including their proper names!

Oh, and we said goodbye to a day visitor...Galoop!

That's what Galoop Senior looked like, back in the day. Before getting loved into retirement!

Athletics day has been postponed to this coming Friday due to the impending southerly that is currently making it's way up the country. Oh, and speaking of future events, the whole school will be participating in National Shakeout Day, at 9:15 on Thursday morning. Please feel free to talk to your children about it beforehand.

Less Structured Thursday

Good afternoon,

Well, 39 (or so days) down, 1 day to go!

Today was a bit of a...less-structured-than-usual kind of day.

It did start off as most Thursdays do...

...but then we went...shopping!

(The idea being that the children would procure items for sale, price them, then go around exchanging notes for it said items.)

After morning tea we were back to the regularly scheduled programme...for a Thursday...

,

...exploring the vocabulary of this week's big book text, and then...back to a bit of independent learning while I caught up on the rest of Kakariki's and Parakaraka's reading assessments. So, no reading instruction, so no reading books.

Speaking of assessments...that was our afternoon! R.E. (Church strand) and Science.

Tomorrow's mufti day, no donation required. Please bring in all reading folders so I can have a bit of a clean out of books for their browsing boxes.

Thanks,

Mr Grant
